Tragic Collision Claims Life of Elderly Man on AJC Bose Road Flyover in Kolkata

In the heart of Kolkata, a tragic incident unfolded on the AJC Bose Road flyover claiming the life of a 65-year-old man named Madan Saha. Hailing from Sarat Chatterjee Road in Shibpur, Howrah, Saha was an unfortunate victim of a collision involving a mini truck during the early hours of Tuesday. The police, investigating the matter, speculate that a third rider or driver might have played a role in the mishap and subsequently fled the scene.

This dreadful event had far-reaching consequences, as the immediate aftermath saw a significant disruption in traffic flow for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Commuters had to navigate through alternative routes via Hospital Road and Red Road as the main thoroughfare became congested. The chaos extended to various points including Exide Crossing and Rabindra Sadan. Recent times have seen a concerning trend of accidents occurring on flyovers and bridges, with at least six such incidents reported over the past two months. An officer from the South Traffic Guard shared a poignant observation regarding the accident. He revealed that Saha's helmet had come off upon impact, and as he fell, his head struck the ground directly. The officer expressed that had the helmet been properly secured, it might have played a crucial role in preserving Saha's life. During the chaotic aftermath, several vigilant motorists alerted the police stationed on the Maa flyover about the mini truck attempting to flee the scene.
